So you’ve been reading RestAwhile™ and something in you is saying: I could contribute to this. Or maybe a friend told you about it, or someone from the team personally invited you.
However you arrived at this moment, the fact that you’re here matters.
We don’t believe in coincidences. Especially not when it comes to people finding communities that align with their gifts.
Joining RestAwhile™ as a contributor is not complicated. But it is intentional.
We want every person on this team to be genuinely aligned with our mission, committed to the standard we hold, and excited about what we’re building.
So here is exactly how the process works.
Who We’re Looking For
There is no single profile of a RestAwhile™ contributor. We have writers who have published formally and writers who have never written anything longer than a WhatsApp message.
We have medical students, ministry leaders and young professionals who journal in their spare time.
What they all share is not a writing credential. It is a set of values.
We’re looking for people who:
✅ Share our Christian faith: Genuinely growing in their relationship with Christ
✅ Have a servant heart: They write to give, not to impress
✅ Are teachable: Open to feedback from the team
✅ Can commit consistently: Even if that means 1 article per month
✅ Are curious about life, people, and ideas: That curiosity shows in their writing
✅ Health, faith, & productivity: Should be integrated parts of their whole life
You do not need formal writing training. You do need honest, considered things to say.
The Application Process
Here is how to officially join the Rest Awhile™ team:
1️⃣ Reach out: Find us on our contact page. Tell us a little about yourself — who you are, why RestAwhile™ interests you, and what category you feel drawn to write in.
2️⃣ Read RestAwhile™ Guidelines: We will direct you to the RestAwhile™ Guidelines page and ask you to read the articles fully. This is not a formality. The guidelines in this hub are the foundation of everything we do, and we want you to go in with clear expectations.
3️⃣ Sample Submission: You will be invited to submit a sample piece — either something you’ve already written or a short article on a topic of your choice within our 3 categories. This isn’t a test of perfection. It’s a glimpse of your voice and your heart.
4️⃣ Sample Review & Feedback: Our editorial team will review your sample and reach out within 1 day with feedback. If we’re a good fit, you’ll be welcomed into the team with a formal onboarding. You will be given access to our WordPress Dashboard. (explained in Article 13).
5️⃣ Contributor Agreement Form: Upon joining, you’ll sign the Contributor Agreement (explained in Article 4), receive your WordPress backend access, and be introduced to the rest of the team.
Tips To Fit In The Team Nicely
A few things that make a real difference when you’re joining us:
✅ Be yourself in your sample piece: We are not looking for a specific writing style — we are looking for authenticity. The writers who stand out are the ones who aren’t trying to sound like anyone else.
✅Choose a topic you actually care about: Readers can feel it when a writer is genuinely invested in what they’re saying. Write about something you’ve lived, questioned, or discovered — not something you think sounds impressive.
✅ Read at least 5 of our articles before you write your sample: This will give you a feel for our tone, length, and structure — and help you understand what “on brand” looks and sounds like.
✅ Don’t overthink it: We have welcomed contributors whose first draft had very rough edges but whose heart for people was unmistakable. We can help you with craft. We cannot give you the desire to serve.
What Happens After You Join
Once you’re on the team, you’ll be part of a community of writers who are regularly sharing content, giving each other feedback, and collaborating with editors, designers, and social media managers.
You’ll have a point of contact on the editorial team, a WordPress author account, and access to our shared content calendar.
You’ll also have the freedom to pitch topics, suggest new content ideas, and, as your voice develops, take on more responsibility within your chosen category.
RestAwhile™ is a place that grows with you. The door is open. All you have to do is walk through it.
